Research shows that girls who participate in sports are more likely to graduate, attend college, and become leaders and yet too many are sidelined by preventable injuries and lack of support. The HERcovery Project (a 501(c)(3) nonprofit) exists to change that by equipping young female athletes with the tools, education, and community they need to stay in the game and thrive.
The HERcovery Project was made to provide fully stocked injury prevention and recovery kits to public high school girls’ sports teams across Brooklyn and Manhattan. Each $250 kit includes essentials like athletic tape, resistance bands, tampons, cold packs, pre-wrap, and other items that female athletes need to stay healthy and confident, both on and off the field.
By reducing preventable setbacks and bridging resource gaps, HERcovery is investing in the long-term success and leadership potential of the next generation of female athletes.
HERcovery was founded in 2025 by Lylah Ruparel, a high school sophomore and competitive gymnast, aspiring to pursue sports medicine and public health while competing at the D1 level. As the president/founder of the Athletic Health Alliance at Brooklyn Technical High School and the current student athletic trainer for the BTHS varsity boys’ football team (2024 NYC champions), she experiences firsthand the benefits of support and resources, something most girls’ teams don’t enjoy. That gap inspired her to take action, starting HERcovery to meet the needs too many people were ignoring.
HERcovery is built and run by Lylah, with the hope of building and inspiring a community around injury prevention through athletic kits and education, alongside her teammates, community members, and corporate sponsors.
